Truth, Loyalty, Love and Friendship. The Phi Gamma Chapter of Omega Nu is a social and philanthropic organization of women in Modesto, CA. Since 1924, Omega Nu has created a strong network of women who make a positive impact in Stanislaus County through volunteering and fundraising events.
It all began on Saturday, May 17, 1924, when the installation ceremony of the new chapter was held at the McHenry Avenue home of Helen Ayres. For this event, Sacramento was the sponsoring chapter. The weather was “fair and cooler,” reported the Modesto News Herald, whose pages also revealed how different the times were on that date. Prohibition was in full swing, and advertisements touted ladies' dresses selling for $12.50 to $18.75, crackers at 10 cents a box, and soap at 5 cents a bar. Seven members of the Sacramento chapter traveled to Modesto to install the new chapter–quite a journey for the day's automobiles.
The afternoon ceremony was preceded by a luncheon at the Hotel Hughson, followed by attendance that night at the Phi Alpha fraternity dance in the ballroom of the Hotel Modesto.
Throughout the decades, Omega has sponsored many events to raise funds to support our community. Since 2000, the sisters have raised well over 1.5 million supporting local organizations that support women and children in Stanislaus County. Something we would not be able to do if not for the faithful (and new) supporters of Omega Nu.
Your donation would help us fund more organizations in our community - thank you
